Gardens should always be considered highly personal works of art. As in any kind of art, taste will vary greatly with every person having a different opinion of what constitutes beauty. Understanding basic design principles is important for two reasons: First, if you know the rules you can break them in an intelligent way. Second, it helps give you a comfort level that what you design won’t be a complete disaster. However, in the end the only thing that really matters is that you love your garden – your opinion is the most important one.

We can talk to you about formal and informal garden design.  But it is all just so much background noise, like an audio book, without your input, your desires, and your vision.

One size does not fit all

Quite often we have people come to us with pictures in hand, pictures of flower bed designs in magazines, beautiful flower beds at beautiful homes, and they tell us “this is what we want our flower beds to look like.” And that’s all well and good, except that our customer lives in Fort Worth, and the picture they are showing us is from London, England, a completely different micro-climate and completely different soils.

We then sit down and we explain the problems.  We go over options which will work with the Fort Worth climate and the Fort Worth soils, and we give them options which are as close as possible to the picture they brought us.

Some customers will come to us with the hope of lovely, colorful annuals and perennials, but their yard is actually shaded almost the entire days by large trees.  We will work to eliminate the obstacles so that those flowers can receive the sunshine they need to color properly.

Some customers come to us with drainage problems, problems which make it impossible to grow flowers, and we talk to them about drainage solutions and flowerbed renovation which will allow their flowerbeds to thrive.
